Community Hour at ULDM

Community hour is a time for us to extend participation in Dance Marathon to families and past ULDM alumni so they are able to see how the event has grown and changed. It will run from 6-9pm on Friday and 10-noon on Saturday and we invite you to come out for a portion, or even the whole block of time to experience the excitement of Dance Marathon 2012! For the families we will have a kid’s tent filled with fun activities like face painting to keep your children entertained if they are too overwhelmed by all of the dancers. Many of the dancers love to interact with the children and will try to get them out on the dance floor with them, and we would encourage the parents to get out there too, if that makes the children more comfortable. It is a great opportunity to come and experience what dance marathon is all about and see all of the fun that is had by the dancers as they raise more and more money for Kosair Children’s Hospital.

Mr. & Ms. ULDM was a success!

Mr. and Ms. ULDM was held on January, 26th in Strickler Auditorium and was an outstanding success with close to 150 people attending. Not bad for the first ever Mr. and Ms. ULDM! Due to the hardwork of great volunteers and staff, ULDM was able to hold a worthwhile event to honor some of our All-Star Dancers and supporters as they competed for the title of Mr. or Ms. ULDM!

Your contestants included:

Autumn Kidd – Chi Omega

Elizabeth Delany – Sigma Kappa

Megan Payne – Kappa Delta

Brittany Bell – Delta Zeta

Maria Schuman – Pi Phi

David Tandrian – Sigma Alpha Epsilon

Hunter Pittman – Phi Kappa Alpha

John Evanko – Sigma Chi

Adam Dahmer – Kappa Sigma

Frank Gulla – Beta Theta Pi

Each contestant demonstrated new and exciting performances throughout the night. Some contestants such as Hunter Pittman, taught the crowd how to make a balloon animals, while John Evanko performed a stirring rendition of “Remember the Titans”. Others, like Adam Dahmer, wooed the crowd with their musical talents, while Brittany Bell rapped, and Autumn Kidd danced the night away. The night was amazing, and despite the amazing talents that were on display, the judges could only crown two contestants. After much deliberation, the MC’s Gerome Stephens and Meghan Rouse announced to an excitable crowd that Adam Dahmer and Elizabeth Delany would have the great honor of representing ULDM as Mr. and Ms. ULDM for the coming year! Congratulations Adam and Elizabeth! Thanks to everyone who came to support ULDM!

The SnowBall

On January 12th 2012, ULDM had the opportunity to work with the Office for First Year Initiatives and the Speed Art Museum to bring U of L students The SnowBall!

This was an exciting opportunity for ULDM as we had the chance to interact with U of L students, faculty and community, showing them the passion that we have for helping children, and of course, for DANCING!

ULDM spent the night dancing the night of the way to all of the latest hits, as well as leading all attendees in a variety of line dances!

We look forward to continue building relationships with other on-campus organizations as we look to build the ULDM brand for the future.

Thanks to all who came out to support ULDM at The SnowBall!

Who is Stacie?

For those who missed out on Stacie’s Dancing in the SAC, here is a short biography of Stacie, one of the many children who benefits from Kosair Children’s Hospital and ULDM!

Stacie was born on May 23, 2003 and came into this world with a heart defect resulting in on of the chambers in her heart to not be fully developed. At six months old, Stacie had her first open heart surgery to correct complications with drainage that were occurring in her heart. She was also born with clubfeet and has had many casts to try and correct the problem.

Fortunately, the doctors told her family that she would live a normal life and Stacie, now eight years old, has proven these doctors completely right. Stacie has participated in Girl Scouts for three years and is continually described as a social butterfly who makes friends everywhere she goes. She is also a member of the Brave Hearts Club and participates in the walk for the American Heart Association. Stacie is a vibrant and wonderful girl who is thriving because of the wonderful work done for kids at Kosair Children’s Hospital.
