Right after Laurel finished her last chemotherapy treatment she looked at her mom and said, “Okay mommy, I’m done with cancer. I can do anything I want to do now!”

In December 2004 Laurel visited her doctor with abdominal pains. Unexpectedly, the pains were caused by a primitive neuroectodermal tumor. The doctors at Kosair Children’s Hospital removed it and treated Laurel with nine months of chemotherapy, five weeks of radiation, and blood and platelet transfusions. Since completing chemotherapy, Laurel remains cancer free.

What is this tenderhearted 10-year-old girl doing now that she’s “done with cancer?” For starters, she’s enjoying every minute of school. She excels in her schoolwork and is a President’s Honor Roll student. She is a wonderful pianist, a competitive swimmer and plays on the volleyball team, all of which she hopes to do in college.

Laurel also works hard to raise funds for the research and cure of pediatric cancer—so kids like her never have to experience what she did.
