Children honored by ULDM

We will dance the night away to support Kosair Children’s Hospital at ULDM! We invite you to meet the real champions behind the dance marathon.

Meet Stacie!

Stacie was born on May 23rd 2003 and came into this world with a defect that did not allow one of the chambers in her heart to be fully developed. At six months old Stacie had her first open heart surgery to attempt to correct this problem, and then at age 2 she had another surgery to correct complications with drainage that were occurring in her heart. Stacie was also born with club feet and has had many casts to try and correct the problem, and currently has a pin in her feet to adjust her instep. Fortunately the doctors told her family that she would live a normal life, though they should not expect her to be any sort of Olympic athlete. Stacie, now eight years old and in the third grade, has proven those doctors completely right. She has participated in Girl Scouts for three years and is currently at the Brownie level, and is able to participate in many different activities with her troop. She is continually described as a social butterfly who makes friends everywhere she goes. Her Grandmother said that she “never meets a stranger.”

She is also a member of the Brave Hearts club, which is an organization for children who have had heart defects, that raises money to support Kosair children’s hospital downtown. Not only is Stacie a member of this club but she also attends Camp Brave Hearts which is a week long program located in Kentucky that allows the children along with their cardiologists and nurses to have a great summer camp experience. Stacie also loves to participate in the walk for the American Heart Association and this year she took it a step further. Stacie decided that since both her grandmother and mother have been affected by breast cancer, she would participate in the Susan G. Komen walk on the waterfront, and she walked the entire 3 miles of the race! Stacie is a vibrant and wonderful girl who is thriving because of the wonderful work that is done for kids at Kosair Children’s hospital.
